Hi there, this is a beautiful example of this Irish gold Bullion coin. Graded Proof-69 by PCGS. In 1990 the Central Bank of Ireland and Irish Department of Finance decided to produce a short run of commemorative coins in ECU denominations to mark the Irish Presidency of the EEC. The coin was minted at the Currency Centre in Dublin, Ireland. The decision was to poduce 5,000 gold 50 ECU coins. The 1990 commemorative coin was the first Irish gold coin since the 1646 pistole and double pistole coins. Contains 15 grams (just shy of half an ounce) of .917 fine gold and a 28mm diameter. It was crafted with milled edge and medallic alignment. Very beautiful and hard to find.
Obverse (Front) Design
The harp with the value below is surrounded by 12 stars (the number of EEC members in 1990). Inscribed "50 Ecu".
Reverse (Back) Design
The reverse design is a version of the Tom Ryan red deer. The country name 'Eire' (Ireland) is in the field above the deer and the date 1990 is in the exergue. Inscribed "EIRE 1990" - Ireland 1990.
