The Associate Director will report to Analytics Lead in the Metrics, Reporting and Analytics group to assist building a leading edge and high performing analytics group within BioResearch Quality & Compliance (BRQC), Quality Analytics organization. The Associate Director would have the ability to contextualize data and provide framework for, as well as execute descriptive, predictive, prescriptive analytics for complex data, process, or quality questions. This role will be critical to the building of a stronger capability for the analytics team to both respond to complex queries, and to proactively identify data mining opportunities for potential quality issues or signals using cutting edge analytical tools and methodologies. This role will be a functional expert in Analytics group, and require both statistical, analytical and business knowledge to effectively interact with business partners. The scope for the data to be analyzed is cross-system and cross-domain, from data about BRQC quality processes, to operations or scientific data from our R&D partners.
Main responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Understand the data landscape, data models, and customer needs for BRQC, Quality Analytics
  • Bring together the critical factors of data, processes, and systems to create insight from information
  • Assist in the effective and efficient generation of metrics and dashboards that provide utility and predictive measures of quality and are enabler of risk mitigation activities across Janssen R&D.
  • Assist in the creation of new mechanisms to monitor for quality signals on an on-going basis using advanced analytics, signal detection, natural language processing, machine learning, and time-series analysis
  • Partner with the report generation group on more complex requests
  • Support the preparation and execution of various governance bodies such as Management Review, Stage Gate Review, OCC, and CCC with necessary metrics, reporting and analytics.
  • Bring capability and skillsets to contextualize quality data into insights that will enable data driven-decision making to strengthen the BRQC Janssen QMS, for example in aggregate Analytics of quality data
  • Enhance the connection between BRQC colleagues and business partners on data and Analytics topics
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop trending and modeling capabilities to improve innovative process improvements (such as aggregate Analytics of minors etc.)
  • Apply analytical/statistical methods to complex and disparate data sources to provide actionable insights

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree required (advanced degree preferred) in computer science, statistics, information science, bioinformatics, machine learning, medical informatics, biophysics, computational biology or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and/or consumer products industry is required
  • Demonstrated development and application of data mining algorithms, statistical methods, text mining and natural language processing is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating visualizations and dashboards with tools is required.
  • Experience working with senior leaders/leadership teams is required
  • Strong understanding of clinical trials quality and compliance processes and demonstrated ability to conceptualize and deliver advanced analytics solutions is preferred
  • Ability to organize large multidimensional datasets from structured data or from free text and familiarity with concepts of Big Data is preferred
  • Proficiencies in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Perl, R, or PHP and ability to work in a unix environment/ have familiarity with the unix shell, is preferred
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and the ability to learn data models and create querries using SQL to extract data cuts is preferred
  • Experience with tools such as RStudio, Weka, Knime, Pipeline Pilot or other workflow tools and ability to design and deploy workflows and analytics tools is preferred
  • Strong understanding of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, Javascript, and familiarity with cloud services such as Amazon Web Services is preferred
  • Demonstrated development and application of time series data analysis, and one of the machine learning techniques such as decision trees, network analytics, association rules, classification, clustering, regression, neural networks, or Bayesian modelling is preferred
  • Up to 10% international and domestic travel required.
