Medical Coding and Billing Specialist

If you work well in fast paced environments, have high attention to detail and are actively searching for an opportunity to advance yourself financially, you should consider becoming a medical coding and billing specialist.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics medical billing and coding specialists make an average of $38,040 per year. However, the highest 10 percent earned more than $62,840, making this a great source of income.
Some of the responsibilities you’ll have as a medical coding and billing specialist are:
• Managing specifically-coded information
• Analyzing patient records
• Determining correct codes for patient records
• Maintaining patient confidentiality
• Using codes to bill insurance providers
• Keeping track of patient data

Medical coding and billing specialists work in a number of different offices such as:
• Physicians’ offices

• Home health care services
• Nursing care facilities
