Job Summary: Employee will ensure that all physician and nursing needs are met. Oversees Unit Secretaries and ensures that they produce quality work. Ensure that all nursing units are stocked for their daily needs. Initiates a new medical record for each admission, maintains records during the patient stay, and closes the record upon patient discharge. Coordinates testing or procedures for patients ensuring all appropriate staff is notified. Effectively communicates with all parties respectfully. Performs efficiently on a multifunctional level in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities: Initiates medical record upon admission. Maintains said record during patient stay, and closes the record upon patient discharge. Initiates follow-up with nursing staff regarding doctor's orders. Ensures that the department is adequately staffed. Works closely with the Unit Secretary team to meet their needs regarding scheduling and makes adjustments as needed. Provides feedback and manages conflict when need arises amongst Unit Secretary Team. Delegates tasks as appropriate. Contributes feedback to Nursing Leadership on Unit Secretary performance evaluations. An effective resource for nursing staff and an active liaison between physicians and nursing staff. Serves as unit receptionist for incoming and outgoing calls and visitor information. Greets patients and families upon arrival to facility. Interacts frequently with unit personnel, physicians, visitors, patients' families and other ancillary hospital personnel for the purpose of giving and receiving information. Has minimal contact with patients. Duties may include answering patient lights, and fulfilling patient request for non-care items. Requires professional, courteous, and helpful manner in all contacts with customers. Position involves multi-tasking in a high stress environment. Requires constant mental alertness and the ability to calmly and accurately perform duties when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions. Must have the ability to exercise judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems encountered Ensures that all patient and unit equipment, supplies and procedures are ordered and received Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:Experience/Skills High school diploma required, with two years of college level education preferred. Prior experience of at least one year in a hospital setting is preferred. Must have the ability to work with all levels of medical personnel, patients and families. Ability to speak and write concisely with knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
