Compensation:
Competitive base salary, including full benefits and retirement plan.

Summary:
Administer financial, accounting, and reporting activities,
assuring timely and accurate reporting. Supervise payroll, payables,
receivables and general ledger activities. Oversee loan and equity
tracking, valuations, monitoring and compliance. Oversee grant financial
compliance. Serve as chief contract administrator for contracts & grants.

A day in the life of the Controller at Ben Franklin:
Financial Reporting and Budgeting
Prepare all internal financial reports and external financial statements.
Prepare annual & quarterly GAAP financial statements for reporting to the Board of Directors, along with monthly budget to actual statements.
Oversee and review the monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
Prepare consolidation of subsidiaries related to all Ben Franklin entities.
Oversee the completion of the annual audit and grant audits, as required.
Prepare the annual budget and related projections.
Oversee and review preparation of tax returns (990, 5500, subsidiaries)
General Ledger
Oversee all accounting and payroll functions.
Prepare journal entries for significant estimates, including the loan loss reserve.
Review reconciliations and other journal entries.
Oversee implementation & maintenance of accounting software, including subsidiary systems tracking loan, equity and funding partnership activity.
Review payment vouchers, assuring appropriate approvals, consistency with contracts and general ledger classifications.
Cash Management
Oversee wire payments and receipts, capital calls, earning distributions and maintenance of banking relationships.
Monitor returns from marketable securities and cash accounts, promoting adherence to Ben Franklin policies.
Grant Compliance and Reporting
Oversee compliance reporting to all grant agencies.
Assist in preparing and reviewing administrative, and funding contracts.
Monitor contract expenditure compliance and reporting.
Loan and Equity Tracking and Analysis
Oversee loan and equity administration, valuation and compliance.
Support the Investment Group with analysis for significant transactions (e.g., loan conversions, warrants exercise, and impaired loan work-outs.
Research, and implement new accounting and reporting standards, in consultation with management.
Collaborate with the Investment Group to develop and implement strategies for inactive or impaired loan collections.
Analysis
Oversee quarterly analysis of the loan and equity portfolios for management and Finance Committee review.
Prepare other analyses as requested, including projected operating results, cash flows, etc., as requested.
Leadership
Effectively train and coach staff in areas where needed.
Look for areas within Finance & throughout the organization for administrative and operational improvement.
Maintain a high level of staff motivation within the Finance Department.
Other
Review and monitor accounting functions for Ben Franklin subsidiary entities.
Assist management in maintaining adequate insurance and risk management program.
Perform other job-related duties and special projects, as assigned.

Skills you will need:

Communications:
Maintain the highest professional standards in written and oral communication.

Work effectively with a variety of people, including the general public, Board of Directors, senior management, and colleagues.
Technical:
Knowledgeable of GAAP for non-profit and for-profit entities.
Tax reporting, including Form 990, partnership returns, state and local returns.
Proficient with Microsoft Operating Systems and Office Suites.
Able to remotely access accounting and other financial systems.
Experienced in maintaining good organization-wide internal controls.
Demonstrated understanding of loan and equity financing, and valuation methods.
Experience in managing diverse funding sources & related financial reporting.
Analytical:
Possess a high degree of discretion, problem solving experience, and confidentiality.
Exceptional analytical ability and the capacity to compile and organize information from varying sources, make decisions and recommend strategies.
Capable of managing multiple projects, setting priorities and meeting deadlines, while adjusting to changing priorities.
Ideal Candidate Attributes:
BS/BA in accounting or finance. CPA and / or MBA strongly preferred.
A minimum of 4 -10 years’ experience in accounting and finance, in a management capacity. (Preferably, portfolio administration, equity valuations, and consolidated reporting).
Ability to work independently, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Public accounting experience preferred.
